Presenting Our Legacy
This year we have the privilege to work with friends around the world. The classes we will work with are in Egypt, Sweden, Taiwan, Canada, and also Missouri and New Jersey in the USA. We hope you share this exciting learning journey with us through our blog postings
The project is described by the following from the Iearn website: “My Hero Learning Circles is a joint venture between Learning Circles and My Hero. This Circle will bring together students and teachers who are interested in collaborating with other schools from diverse areas of the world on the topic of My Hero through writing, photography, and digital video. Final Projects will be created using the My Hero Web site Organizer.”
We will be posting photos, videos, and more as the other classes share their cultures with us.
Student Writer- Laisha
A member of the Ontario Fury soccer team came to talk to the students and staff at our school. His name is Israel Sesay, but he said to call him Issy. He is #11 on the Ontario fury. Issy is from Sierrra Leonean, Africa, and he plays midfield in soccer. He came with a lady as well, and her name is Erika. They talked about staying healthy by eating fruits and vegetable. They also talked to us about how education is the first step toward achieving success in life. Erika shared that daily exercise is part of a long healthy life. We discussed our favorite healthy snacks, our favorite subjects in school, and our favorite exercises. Last, the students got to go up on stage and pass the ball to each other. They also got to do heads with Issy. The teachers and vice-principal even had a chance go on stage too! It was an amazing experience with Issy.
Brandon Mull, a famous author, came to visit us.. He is the New York Times bestselling author of the Fablehaven and Beyonders series. He has also earned the bestselling author title for USA TODAY, and The Wall Street Journal for the Five Kingdoms and Candy Shop War series. He talked to us about using our imaginations and the excitement of writing stories you create in your own mind. He shared how reading more makes you a better writer. He was a kid who daydreamed a lot, and then turned those daydreams into wonderful books. He autographed books for us and inspired us all to be readers and writers. If you want to learn more about Brandon Mull and his books, go to www.brandonmull.com.
